Working with Worry Part B

It's the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) that is triggered with worry, anxiety or stress, and the Vagus Nerve plays a huge part.

When a Sympathetic response is triggered, feeling of fight/flight, freeze or fawn, comes into operation as the body prepares for danger.

The Dorsal Vagus Nerve arouses indigestion or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) as a stress response, because in such a situation, the blood flow is redirected from the gut to the deep muscles ready to flee or fight.

The work of therapy is to help bring the Ventral Vagus Nerve into activation to restore a parasympathetic response in the Autonomic Nervous System.  I will explain more about this in Part C which is yet to come!

But Biblically Jesus has a lot to say about worry and fear, and God's care for us:

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows." Matthew 10.29-31.
