Trauma and Neuroplasticity – Part B
In Part A I referred to the importance of mindfulness in trauma therapy.
Mindfulness refers to keeping the client psychologically present in the moment.
This is important because this prevents the client getting flooded ie retraumatised.
I am trained to work very gently for this reason, using titration and pendulation. This means in the counselling room the client does a little trauma work a time, coming back to the present frequently.
Working somatically helps the client to remain regulated.
In the Christian faith we have great encouragement addressing trauma, as Jesus promises he will be with us
"Even though I walk through the darkness valley I will fear no evil for you are with me." Psalm 23 verse 4a.
All Bible quotations are from the NIV.
