Trauma and Neuroplasticity – Part A
When addressing the impact of trauma with clients, working explicitly with the neuroplasticity is key. Trauma neurological networks are held in the hippocampus in the limbic system. Taking this into consciousness in the prefrontal cortex enables fresh neuroplasticity. This means that fresh synaptic connections are made, thereby changing the trauma network.
Habitual fresh thinking in therapy about these new thoughts around the trauma change it. Old synaptic connections shrivel and the fresh one become reinforced with regular rethinking.
Mindfulness is also important in working with trauma. I will explain more about this in Part B.
But Biblical this is the application of Isaiah 30.15.
"In repentance and rest is your salvation. In quietness and trust is your strength."
This how the Holy Spirit brings peace with Mindfulness in trauma work.
