Assertiveness and Boundaries – Part A

Assertiveness is a much hackneyed word in the secular world.  It tends to mean something aggressive and " in your face", to use the vernacular!

However,  Christian assertiveness looks very different. It involves gentle respectful communication which acknowledges the other's viewpoint and even apologetically puts across one's own.

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect " 1 Peter 3. 15b.

Here the Bible is talking about Christians  sharing their faith. But it's the same maxim for any Christian communicating.

"Instead,  speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. " Ephesians 4.15.

Boundaries are also very important and go with assertiveness and I will talk more on this in my next blog post.
